Approaches include using “active learning” strategies to encourage students to really get involved in the concepts covered and therefore try to incorporate short experiments into lessons (subject to parental approval).
The picture below shows an example of an experiment in which the top beaker contains warm water with yellow food colouring, whilst the bottom beaker contains only cold water. There is no physical barrier separating the two and yet it took over 30 minutes before the contents of the two beakers started to mix! This is just one example of the type of simple experiment which students might carry out in lessons.
