“Summer learning loss” is a familiar phenomenon among many parents and teachers. A pupil achieves well at school up to the end of the summer term and progress deteriorates over the long summer break, with maths learning being more affected on average than English.
During the school holidays, we offer KS3, GCSE and A-level tuition, as well as preparation for University resit examinations. Private tuition is different from tutorial college or group revision programmes in that they are tailored to the pupil’s individual requirements rather than the conflicting requirements of a larger group. Taking place in the pupil’s home or even in their holiday destination via Skype, they also achieve more in far less time, leaving the pupil with more leisure time rather than less.
We start by identifying areas of weakness and providing a customised programme of tuition with targets for improvement. This is a highly efficient way of revising or catching up, with the pace being set by the pupil and tutor rather than the slowest pupil in a group. Packages are flexible and can be scheduled as one or two sessions per week (allowing breaks for holidays away if needed), or they can be concentrated during a single week or two if the student would benefit from a more intensive approach. As a general rule of thumb, 2-3 hours of one-to-one tuition is equivalent to a full day in a school classroom.
